Research Experience
Laboratory for Intelligent Imaging and Neural Computing (LIINC), Columbia University
Undergraduate Researcher, Brain–Computer Interface · Feb 2025 – Present · PI: Prof. Paul Sajda
- Architecting a multimodal hierarchical transformer, in collaboration with Google DeepMind, that unifies electrophysiology (EEG, ECoG) and hemodynamics (fMRI, fNIRS) in a shared representation.
- Pre-training and fine-tuning across large-scale public neural datasets (TUH EEG Corpus, SEED, THINGS), standardizing heterogeneous protocols, channel montages, and temporal resolutions.
- Developing and maintaining the downstream evaluation harness for reproducible comparison across neural decoding benchmarks.
Zuckerman Institute, Columbia University (Dr. Jia Guo Lab / Heffner Biomedical Imaging Lab)
Undergraduate Researcher, Biomedical Imaging · Jan 2025 – Present (Paid Research Assistant since Spring 2026) · PI: Dr. Jia Guo
- Engineered a Hybrid 2D CNN-Transformer for volume-transfer-constant (Ktrans) map reconstruction from DCE-MRI in Focused-Ultrasound-induced Blood-Brain-Barrier (FUS-BBB) opening studies, cutting reconstruction time and surpassing state-of-the-art accuracy (first-authored ISMRM 2026 abstract).
- Built a Hybrid 3D CNN-Transformer for accelerated Cerebral Blood Volume (CBV) reconstruction from Perfusion-Weighted Imaging (PWI) MRI, accompanied by an automated preprocessing pipeline (brain extraction + rCBV calculation) replacing a manual multi-hour workflow (first-authored ISMRM 2026 abstract).
- Developed a novel methodology deriving Ktrans maps directly from Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) MRI without gadolinium contrast, establishing a non-invasive pathway for patients contraindicated for gadolinium contrast agents.
- Developed and validated an encoding-decoding framework generating voxel-wise amyloid-β and tau pathology maps directly from non-invasive T1-weighted MRI against PET ground truth.
- Leading ResUMamba3D (
ADNI_T1w_PET): a 3D U-Net with a Mamba state-space bottleneck synthesizing multi-tracer PET (AV45 amyloid-β, AV1451 tau) from T1w MRI on ADNI data with uncertainty-weighted multi-task loss (PyTorch + MONAI). - Current research: Virtual PBV (pulmonary blood volume from dual-energy CT, MESA cohort) and ADNI plasma-NfL.
University of Tokyo (Inami-Monnai Lab & Yamashita-Set Fiber Photonics Lab)
HCI Research Intern · Jun – Aug 2023 · Tokyo, Japan
- Built a tactile 3D force-sensing system using load-cell arrays for physical HCI prototyping, writing firmware in Arduino C and Java.
- Initiated an optical-fiber dual-axis force-sensing project using polarimetric state measurements on a Poincaré sphere, seeding a follow-on lab publication.
